Character name: E. Aster Bunnymund
Fandom: Rise of the Guardians/Guardians of Childhood
Timeline: End of the movie
Age: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaancient. He’s described as being older than the Earth, from the Golden Ages, so yeah.
~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Bunnymund, to put it in the simplest of terms, is the Easter Bunny. His primary task is to usher in the arrival of Spring with the holiday of Easter, wherein he travels the world hiding brightly-coloured chocolate eggs for children to find and collect. To accomplish this task, he has a number of abilities at his disposal. For one, he possesses the abilities of a rabbit; great agility, the ability to jump great distances, and acute senses to alert him of danger. He is able to wield two enchanted boomerangs in combat, carries explosive egg-bombs, and claims to be a master of Tai Chi, which he uses to defend himself in combat. In addition to his natural abilities, Bunnymund also has the ability to open up holes and underground tunnels by tapping his foot on the ground; doing so creates a hole wide enough for him (and any companions he has) to slip into, which immediately seal up behind him, leaving no trace save a fresh spring flower. He uses these tunnels to travel across the globe unseen in a matter of seconds. Bunny also possesses the ability to manipulate plants and flowers, causing them to bloom or spray colourful paints (at least those growing in his Warren). He also wields mastery over his egg troops, which are comprised both of regular chicken-sized eggs which possess legs that he uses as his signature Easter Eggs, as well as giant stone sentinel eggs for defending his home.
Bunnymund also happens to be a talented painter, which comes in handy for painting his eggs.
How would they use their abilities?: Being a Guardian, Bunnymund’s primary use of his powers lies on two things: ensuring his holiday’s security and people’s belief in himself, and protecting his comrades from those who threaten his duty or the children he is sworn to protect. This means that he will fight fiercely alongside his allies in battle, while using his non-combative talents to bring hope to those who need it.
Appearance:
Bunnymund is a Pooka, which is a species of intelligent rabbit species that stands upright and can reach heights of six to seven feet tall. He has grayish-blue fur that ghosts out to white on his underbelly and feet, tribal flower-like imprints on his shoulders, forehead, and back in dark blue, and green eyes. He wears leather bracers on each arm set with oval, orange stones, leather wrappings on his feet, and a single-strap holster over his shoulder which holds his boomerangs, eggs, and painting supplies.

Background/Personality: When it comes to Bunnymund’s background, there are two aspects to look over; his depiction in the movie Rise of the Guardians, and his depiction in the Guardians of Childhood book series. Chronologically, the events of the book series (which is incomplete as of now) comes before the events of the movie, so those will be discussed first.
In the book series, Bunnymund states that he is a Pooka, a race of philosophical warrior rabbits that had thrived during the Golden Age. The Golden Age was a period of time where dreams were easily made into reality and light ruled the universe. Otherworldly human-like beings thrived on many different planets, and among these beings were those who lived in groups called Constellations. Each Constellation consisted of a royal family which ruled one area of the cosmos, guarding the light and keeping dreams alive. Tsar Lunanoff was the ruler of the Constellations and maintained peace. The Pookas had cooperated with the Constellation families and aided them in creating a number of ancient relics together, and Bunnymund himself states that his people had been gatherers of light for their allies.
Things were peaceful for many years until a great tragedy fell upon one man named Kozmotis Pitchiner. Pitchiner was the Golden Age’s greatest warrior and had aided the Golden Armies in battle against the Fearlings, horrid creatures who lived in darkness and fed on the dreams of the pure. Before the Golden Age all the Fearlings were locked up in a great prison, and Pitchiner had vowed to stand vigil over the prison. But over time, as the Fearlings begged and pleaded to be released, they saw a chance to escape; namely, through Pitchiner. During his vigil the only solace that Pitchiner had was a locket he owned which contained a picture of his daughter, which he greatly missed. Sensing his vulnerability, the Fearlings hypnotized Pitchiner and tricked him to believe that his daughter was locked inside the vault. Frantic, he rushed to open the door, only to be swallowed up and taken over by the Fearlings. His mind and heart were tarnished with darkness, and from that moment on he was no longer Kozmotis Pitchiner, but was reborn under a new name: Pitch Black, the Nightmare King.
Overcome with thoughts of vengeance, Pitch turned his fury onto the Golden Armies and the Constellations. He overtook planet after planet and slew a countless number of people in his rampage, including the majority of Bunnymund’s race and Tsar Lunanoff and his family, save for the young Lunanoff prince who Pitch had intended to make his own Prince of Nightmares. Pitch nearly succeeded, but was thwarted by the Prince’s attendant, Nightlight, who caused a huge explosion on encountering in battle. Both vanished without a trace.
Countless centuries passed after this fateful battle. The young Lunanoff prince found a new home on a young planet, called Earth, and took up residents within its moon, thus becoming the Man in the Moon. Bunnymund himself ended up on Earth as well after his kin’s slaughter, where he too set up residence deep beneath the earth’s crust. He devised himself a home deep within the earth, creating a series of tunnels that would connect him to every part of the world within a matter of moments. An intelligent creature, Bunnymund used his vast knowledge to bring many things to the young Earth, including various trees, flowers, and grasses, Spring, jokes, summer vacations, recess, and his most talented skill, chocolate. A master chocolatier, Bunnymund and his egg troops pride themselves on creating countless chocolate masterpieces. His are second to none, making use of all of the flavours of the world in his creations. Other than these feats, Bunnymund remained relatively hidden from the world, until he was sought out by Nicholas St. North (who would later be known as Santa Clause) his friend Katherine, and Nightlight, who had returned to fight Pitch. They had sought out Bunnymund to aid them in battle against Pitch, who had hidden deep within the Earth’s core after attacking the village of Big Root. Big Root is known to be a magical place full of children who have never had a nightmare, and as such their dreams are very potent. Naturally, this makes Big Root a prime target for Pitch to attack. Not only does he seek the dreams of the children and to turn them into Fearlings, but he also desires the knowledge of the village’s guardian, an old wizard named Ombric; if he possesses both of these things, his power would grow exponentially.
Bunnymund, suspicious of humans and their greed, initially resists, but eventually agreed to help them battle Pitch. When they first meet Bunnymund, he looked vastly different; instead of his current action gear, he instead wore a green coat with emerald spectacles and carried an egg-tipped spear as a weapon. Using one of the relics of the Golden Age that his kin had been sworn to protect (an intricately crafted egg-shaped spear-tip for his spear), he helps North, Katherine, and Ombric by taking them to the Earth’s core, and successfully drive back Pitch. Peace followed that fateful battle, but Pitch would not remain down forever; instead, he set his sights on turning Katherine into his Princess of Nightmares. To do this he enlists the aid of an army of monkeys to kidnap her, the leader of which is a sworn enemy of Queen Toothiana (who would later become the Tooth Fairy). They once again defeat Pitch, but the victory is not solid; right before the final blow could be dealt, Katherine took pity upon Pitch and saved him. Doing so prompted the intervention of a great force known as Mother Nature (who is later revealed to be Pitch’s daughter, though Pitch himself does not know this.) Mother Nature appears and then vanishes in a flash, taking both Pitch and Katherine with her. Whether this act was out of malevolence or benevolence is unknown at this time.
Here is where we end the book verse and enter the movie verse, at least several hundred years later. Bunnymund’s appearance has changed over the years, losing the philosopher’s garb in exchange for warrior’s weapons. He is now a full-fledged Guardian, under service of the Man in the Moon, sworn to defend children by bringing them Hope, which he enforces through the holiday of Easter. He has done this for countless years, as the battles with Pitch (known as the Dark Ages) is now over. That is, until North summons him, Tooth, and the Sandman (nicknamed Sandy) to the North Pole with dreadful news; Pitch had returned as a shadow in North’s workshop. At first Bunnymund is skeptical and frustrated, as Easter is just a few days away. But confirmation from the Man in the Moon convinces him, and the Man in the Moon brings shocking news; to defeat Pitch, a new Guardian must be selected. The Guardian he chooses is the winter spirit Jack Frost, to Bunnymund’s chagrin. Due to Jack’s mischievous nature, he’s often ruined many of Bunny’s Easter Egg hunts, thus sparking a rivalry between the two.
Nevertheless, Bunny is chosen to collect Jack and bring him to the North Pole. He does this, only to find that Jack himself is reluctant to become a Guardian. After a heated discussion where Bunnymund insults Jack by mentioning the children’s disbelief in him and inability to see him, the Guardians and Jack break for a moment to let Jack consider. During this time, a distress call is sounded from Toothiana’s Tooth Palace, and the Guardians hasten to the domain of the Tooth Fairy in North’s sleigh (again, to Bunny’s immense discomfort, as he is afraid of heights and flying).
There they discover a terrible sight: horrible creatures called Nightmares have invaded the Palace, captured Toothiana’s helper fairies, and stolen all of the teeth stored there. One helper fairy, nicknamed Baby Tooth, managed to escape thanks to Jack. After the Nightmares disperse, Pitch appears before them and reveals his plans; he wants the power he wielded in the Dark Ages, back when everyone was frightful and miserable, before the Guardians came and made the humans lose their belief in him. He also explains how with enough lack of faith, the Guardians lose their powers and eventually fade into obscurity. After this Bunnymund and the Guardians engage Pitch, but the latter flees into the shadows.
Unable to collect the teeth, children stop believing in the Tooth Fairy, thus weakening her. In an effort to help her, the Guardians offer to collect the teeth, maintaining childrens’ belief in her and keeping her strength up. During this escapade the Guardians meet Jamie, a young boy whom Jack had interacted with prior (though the child hadn’t seen him, thus didn’t know he was there). Jamie awakens to see the Guardians (except Jack) despite their attempts to stay quiet. Unfortunately, Jamie’s pet greyhound jumps to attack Bunnymund while the giant rabbit tries to flee from the dog, and in the ensuing chaos that involves a ball of Sandy’s Dream Sand, everyone gets put to sleep except for Jack and Sandy.
After the Guardians awaken, they realize Sandy and Jack had gone off to chase after the Nightmares that were gathering in the town. They rush to their aid and find Pitch there, and a battle ensues. During this fight, Sandy gets dealt a fatal blow, and he is enveloped by Pitch’s Nightmare Sand. Jack fends off Pitch shortly after and the Guardians escape to Sandy’s domain, where they mourn his death.
Without their fellow Guardian to give children Dreams, more and more children stop believing in the Guardians. But Bunny, Guardian of Hope, reminds them that there is still time to get the children believing again and vanquish Pitch, for Easter is tomorrow. The Guardians agree to help Bunnymund with his holiday, and Bunny creates a tunnel to take them straight to his home, the Warren. When they arrive, they realize that a child had snuck into Bunny’s territory; that child is Sophie, Jamie’s little sister, who had used one of North’s magical snowglobe-portals to warp to Bunny’s home while the other Guardians were asleep during the fiasco in Jamie’s room. During this scene the Guardians are at a loss for what to do; being so diligent in their duties of protecting children, they do not know how to actually deal with children. With the help of Jack, Bunnymund shows a softer side of himself, showing Sophie around the Warren and letting her paint and find eggs, while thousands of eggs make their ways through the tunnels to get painted and brought to the surface. During this time Jack and Bunny reconcile their rivalry with one another, and things seem to brighten.
On their way to the surface with the eggs, Jack offers to bring Sophie back home, despite Bunny’s warnings to stay in case Pitch appears. While Jack is gone, Bunnymund’s fears are realized when the Nightmares attack. Every egg gets smashed, none reaching the surface. Bunnymund, in a last ditch effort to try and salvage his holiday, tries to give a few eggs to some kids on an Easter Egg hunt, but it’s too late; they had already given up and stopped believing, thus they do not see him. Bunny is visibly crushed by this realization. At this moment Jack returns; he had been sidetracked by a clever trick by Pitch that distracted him with wanting to find his set of baby teeth that had been plundered, as they contain his childhood memories which he had lost. Enraged by this, Bunny exclaims that they should have never have trusted Jack and that he needs to leave, before turning away in despair.
After Jack leaves, more and more children stop believing in the Guardians, and Bunny takes the worst toll; his lack of believers causes him to revert into a small rabbit, which bore the same colour scheme that Bunny held but held little more ability than a common rabbit. He would have been worse off had it not been for Jack, who managed to keep the last child believing in the Guardians: Jamie. Because he had seen the Guardians in his room, he still believed in their existence, and after Jack helped him believe in the Easter Bunny once again, Jamie could even see Jack. But Pitch strikes again with malicious intent, desiring to snuff out the last light of the child who believes. Cornered, the Guardians nearly get assaulted until Jack manages to fight a path free for them to escape through. With Jamie and Jack’s help, they manage to get Jamie’s friends believing again. Pitch launches an attack against the Guardians, but the children come forth to save them; upon coming into contact with the Nightmare Sand, the belief of the children transforms it into Dream Sand, and thus the Guardians gain some of their powers back. Bunny’s takes the longest, but he soon regains his full height and combat abilities. They fight Pitch, and are aided by the Sandman, who had been revived through the renewed belief the children possessed.
Now back in the fight, Sandy uses his magic to spread his Dream Sand across the globe and banish the Nightmare Sand, returning good dreams to the children. The captured tooth fairies become freed of their prisons in Pitch’s lair and return the teeth to the Tooth Palace, while also using the magic within the teeth to give the children their most important memories and help them to once again believe in the Guardians. Their powers are once again restored, while Pitch’s have diminished back to nothing. The Nightmares turn on Pitch and drag him back underground, defeated. Everyone celebrates the defeat of Pitch while Jack becomes sworn in as a new Guardian. Bunnymund leaves a number of Easter eggs for Sophie and the other children, saying “Happy Easter, ya little ankle-biter.” He leaves with the other Guardians, peace returned once again.
Personality-wise, Bunnymund is calm, cool, and intelligent. He is a natural ranger who resides beneath Australia (which in the books he declares is his favourite place on Earth), thus giving him an Australian accent and a rough demeanor. He follows his instincts and waits for the perfect moment to spring into action when the time’s right. He is steadfast in his beliefs and generally unflappable, but any jest at Easter causes him to become defensive and irritated. He can be slow to trust, but those who earn his trust can find a loyal ally in Bunnymund, while enemies will get little sympathy from him. He does develop a soft spot for children by the end of the movie, and he is capable of being gentle and caring just as much as he is capable of being a strong and fierce warrior.
Have you read up on how the game works?: Yep. The Guide Plugin is the Flaming Ferret, and the three ways to get money are by working missions, freelance work, or mooching.
1st person sample:
[It looks like there’s yet another new refugee who happens to be arguing at the front desk with one of the Vogons. Very typical of new arrivals coming in, but this doesn’t look like a typical refugee. No, rather, the refugee arguing with the Vogon seems to be... a giant rabbit of sorts, decked out with leather bracers and an over-the-shoulder holster, which has two boomerangs strapped to the back of it.]
Wait, wait, hold on. You’ve already told me that the Earth is gone, I heard you the first time! What I’m saying is you haven’t even given me any answers as to how or why! You just keep throwing more paperwork at me!
[The Vogon tries to explain how the paperwork is important and tries to direct attention to the Guide, but the rabbit is having none of that.]
Oh no, you listen here, mate. I don’t think you understand how serious this is! I have no idea where I am and I’ve got some crazy galah trying to tell me the Earth is gone! Easter is just around the corner! How am I supposed to deliver my eggs now?!
[The Vogon continues to explain the importance of the Guide, and that if he has any questions to direct them to the proper forms to fill. The Rabbit, clearly annoyed, shakes his head.]
No, you know what? I don’t have time for this. I’ll find out what’s going on by myself, and you can just rack off!
[He leaves the front desk in a huff, clearly angry. He only takes the Guide at the Vogon’s insistence, and the feed clicks off.]
3rd person sample:
Bunnymund sat down on a small hill in the park, or the sad patch of grass that passed for a park. After receiving his Guide and instructions from the front desk, he had quickly retreated in search of someplace away from the chatter of humans and the din of too many bodies cramped into one place. He needed somewhere to think about everything he’d just heard, somewhere where he didn’t have to deal with anyone just yet. Doing so had led him to the park, and since it was the first place he’d found with grass and plants, he had quickly relaxed and made to get comfortable. Hence his current perch on the hill, Guide in his paws.
So the Earth was gone, somehow. He still had no idea how that had happened. His comrades weren’t here, or if they were he hadn’t seen them. Easter was just a few days away, and he had no egg troops or tunnels to manage. For the first time since Pitch’s demise he felt a deep sense of unease; how was he supposed to deal with all of this? What if it was Pitch’s doing?
No, he reassured himself. Pitch was gone, and he hadn’t smelt anything like he did when the Nightmres had invaded. So it was safe to assume that Pitch was behind all of this. He took a deep breath, releasing it in a sigh. Okay, he couldn’t just sit here and fret. He had to address his current problems somehow, and the most important one right now was his job of bringing Easter. Despite his being here against his will, he still had a holiday to maintain. He set off hopping from the hill, looking for a suitable flower garden. He was going to need Eggs, and a lot of them.
Questions?: No.
